Renewable hydrogen, or green hydrogen, is produced from renewable energy sources that ensure a clean process with no harmful emissions. The most widely used method for producing this type of hydrogen is electrolysis. This is a chemical process that breaks down the water molecule (H2O) into hydrogen (H2) and oxygen (O2) through an electric current generated from renewable energy sources (solar or wind).
Additionally, there are other processes to produce hydrogen, such as photoelectrocatalysis, which uses sunlight and a photoactive material without the need for electricity. Lastly, processes for producing green hydrogen from organic waste are also being developed.
Unlike other hydrogen applications, Hydrogen Production processes work with low rather than high pressures.
